Getting Started

Let’s take a quick look at what you will need if you are going to follow along on your own:

I will be using the following software applications. I will discuss each at the point where they are first used to go over installation as well as tips/tricks to get started; however, you may want to download any of these that you don’t already have just to save time later:

Below are some other tools that I will be using and are recommended but are not required:

APIs, libraries and frameworks will be configured and downloaded by the build tools (maven) so that you will not need to worry about downloading them yourself.

I will make every attempt to keep things as general as possible as far as tools that are used. I will make note of things that are easier with one tool or another so that at least you will see why I choose to use the tools that I use.

It should make no difference at all but I will be developing on a Windows Vista box and deploying to the same. Nothing I will be demonstrating will have any native components that I will need to have any care about.
