Wherefor art thou MacPaint?

I remember as a young lad thinking how cool the new Macintosh computers were and whenever we were in a store that had one, I would play with MacPaint, which was always up on the demos because back then it was about all you could do with a Mac (exaggeration but not much). Fast forward, wow 20-something years later and I need to edit a photo on the Mac I use at work… mmmm… yeah, not so much. Does anyone else find it ironic that I have to open up my Windows XP (running in a VM) in order to use the free photo editors that I am used to using (Gimp and Paint.Net) or any image editor for that matter. Apparently, there is no longer any usable image editor shipped with the Mac; however, I did find quite a few commercial ones that were more than happy to charge me for one!

Yes, there is a version of Gimp packaged for the Mac but that didn’t work… it just taunted me with Wilbur’s face and went nowhere.

Brought out the Gimp

I was finally able to get Gimp working, download the Gimp version from Wilber Loves Apple but install XQuartz X extension first and then Gimp. After that it seems to work fine. OpenOffice seemed to start working about the same time so maybe it was also having the same issue.
